Save Money At WinCo FOODS

WinCO.f1new I visited WinCo FOODS at 10th Street West and Avenue K (next to Lowes) when it first opened. I never went back until this past Saturday. My cousin asked me to go there with her. I was so impressed that I ended up going back again on Sunday for more shopping. Although I will continue to shop at my favorite supermarkets, WinCo is now on my list of favorites.

In case you are wondering what “hooked” me. It was the bulk items that can be bought in small or large quantities. Have you ever bought a box of brown sugar when you only needed a table spoon or two? After a while, the rest of the box of sugar becomes hard as a rock. How about spices that you only needed for one special meal? After a while, the items become stale or expired and have to be thrown out. At WinCo, you can buy the quantity you need for today, the coming week or month. No more wasting good money just to let food items expire and go bad.

The selection of bulk food items is huge. You can buy any quantity or measurement of spices, pasta, coffee beans, chopped nuts, whole nuts, brownie mix, baking ingredients, candies, hard to find lentils and beans, pet food and more. Variety is definitely the spice of life!

Do you want fresh peanut or almond butter? A machine is availabe that grinds peanuts and almonds for the amount you want. Almond butter is fantastic. Don’t take my word for it. Visit our local store here in Lancaster, CA. WinCo FOODS

For Palmdale and Lancaster residents commuting to and from San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles, Brent’s Deli is a great place to stop for breakfast, lunch or dinner. My husband, Mike, first introduced me to Brent’s Deli almost 30 years ago. Today, we still go there with our family. Although Northridge is closer, we usually take the extra trip and go to the Westlake Village location for fun.

What keeps us going to Brent’s? The huge menu, large portions and great quality meats and salads are just a few reasons why we go out of our way to go there. If you want to have an omellete for breakfast or lunch, have one. Just be prepared for the time needed to go through the huge menu and the many choices.

By the way, they deliver anywhere in Southern California, from Santa Barbara to San Diego. Check it out and see why they have received so many fine dining awards and reviews including the Zagat Top Pick For 2010.

Porto’s Bakery

Thousands of Palmdale, Lancaster and other Antelope Valley residents commute every day to go to work in San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles and beyond. Because we are a well traveled community, we get to experience regularly a variety of great dining places in the greater Los Angeles area.

One of our favorite places for cakes is Porto’s Bakery in Burbank. Although, I personally have never been to Porto’s, almost every one of our family celebrations over the years have included Porto’s cakes and pastries. My sister Grace, who introduced us to Porto’s, is the one that would order and pick up the appetizers and desserts.

They have an extensive selection of Cuban / Latin style appetizers, cakes and other delicious goodies and have the winning recipe – great selection, delicious cakes and best of all, affordable prices. If you find yourself going “down below”, as we Antelope Valley people call the L. A. area to the south of us, stop by Porto’s.

Porto’s Bakery website tells the story of how Porto’s began in Cuba and continued the family cake making success in Glendale, CA. More on Porto’s food and history
